Large or uneven vaginal lips can cause women to be self-conscious or embarrassed about the appearance of their genitals in intimate situations. This condition can also cause discomfort in tight clothing or during sexual intercourse or exercise in addition to hygienic problems and skin irritation. Enlargement of the labia, or protrusion of the labia minora (inner vaginal lips) beyond the labia majora (outer vaginal lips), can be caused by heredity, aging, childbirth or hormonal changes.

Labiaplasty is a vaginal rejuvenation procedure performed by the surgeons at Hedden Plastic Surgery to reduce and/or balance the size of the inner or outer vaginal lips. Many women find that cosmetic improvement of the labia increases their sexual satisfaction and improves their level of comfort. Results are permanent and re-enlargement of the labia is rare.

Labiaplasty vaginal rejuvenation is performed by Birmingham, Alabama surgeons William J. Hedden, M.D., Christopher J. Schaffer, M.D. and R. Lee England, M.D., at our accredited outpatient surgery facility in Greystone near Birmingham and Hoover. During this relatively minor surgery performed under twilight or general anesthesia, excess tissue is removed and self-dissolving stitches are used. Patients are up and around immediately after the labiaplasty procedure and can usually resume sexual relations in about six weeks. The surgery is practically undetectable after healing takes place.
